Howl by Florence and the Machine has been stuck in my head the past two days. It is a song about absolute obsession, the raw and primal expression of the desire humans have to bury themselves wholeheartedly in love; to live for it, to die in it, to seek it with every breath and not rest until it is found.
I want that fire raging in me.
I want to seek that love so bravely, so constantly, that I stop for nothing else. I want to bury myself in the life of His blood, to partake of it and be bathed in it, because it's the cleanest thing on this earth. I want to hunt it like a wolf, walking tirelessly until I catch its scent, and then chasing where it leads me.
Lord, I'm wary, and uncertain. I'm wild, and free. But I want to be bound entirely to you. You bought me. Now cleanse me, and own me. Ignite the fire in my heart and soul to follow you through the end of eternity. Light the flame in my mind that doesn't rest until it has been fed by your love.
1O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me...
7I can never escape your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
Psalm 139 (NLT)
That's not a threat. It's a promise. The Lord your God loves you, enough to give his own life, his own son, in order to be with you. He never goes away, never doesn't see you, never loses track of you, even for a moment.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power and love and self-discipline. (NLT)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline. (NIV)
God doesn't want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible. (MSG)
2 Timothy 1:7
He wants us to succeed. He doesn't want us ever to be afraid or reluctant to trust in Him, because he's God. He's the biggest lion in the woods. He wants us to be as brave as he is, because he's right there with us. He knows each person's strengths and weaknesses and gifts - he put them there! - and he has a plan and a purpose for you. Be bold in Him, be loving through Him, and be smart and disciplined for Him. Do not be afraid. He will guide your steps, and His strength will support you.
With God's help and through His strength, I will succeed. He has called me to seek Him. So I must go.
